Abstract

This study explores Lee Byung-cheol’s management philosophy; he was the chairman of the Samsung business group and is considered to have made a significant contribution to Korea’s modern economy. His ideas can still have relevance for economic leaders today who are struggling to survive amid the world’s great powers. Unlike previous studies based on qualitative research methods, this study quantitatively analyzed Lee’s management philosophy using text mining techniques. In particular, a total of 536 ideologies were analyzed through structural topic modeling. A comprehensive review of his ideas, broken down into 70 topics, revealed some major ideas that had been overlooked in previous studies. Some of the ideas revealed a statistically significant increase or decrease in the likelihood of utterance over time. Moreover, the philosophical content differed statistically depending on whether the audience was from within an organization or from the general public. Finally, this paper comprehensively summarizes Lee’s philosophy and presents its implications.
