Abstract

This study aimed to identify, through case analysis, the factors that drive the adoption of information technology applications utilized as tools for organizational control in firms. Additionally, based on the implications derived from the case analysis, the study sought to propose research propositions that could be applied in future related studies. To achieve these research objectives, this study conceptualized and defined various types of problems that can arise during a firm's development process as control crises, and on this basis, conducted a longitudinal case analysis of a domestic automobile manufacturer. Through the case analysis, this study found that as the organization grows, the types of control crises occurring in the operation and execution of business activities within the firm continuously change, and that these changes in control crisis types are attributable to changes in the characteristics of business activities as the firm progressively develops in a positive direction. Furthermore, it was found that the different types of control crises arising from changes in business activity characteristics ultimately prompted the case firm to adopt new types of information technology applications.
