Abstract
This paper analyzed the validity and explanatory power of a model by adding global strategy factors—in accordance with the trend toward globalization of corporate management—to firm-specific advantage factors and host country environmental factors that influence the choice between exporting and foreign direct investment when Korean firms enter foreign markets. The analysis results showed that only the variables of internationalization experience and global strategic motivation were statistically significant, and the prediction accuracy of the model incorporating global strategy factors was 69.0%, which was marginally higher than that of the model using only firm-specific advantage and host country environmental factors. These findings indicate that Korean firms with greater international experience in overseas business and whose management demonstrates higher interest in and support for global management tend to prefer foreign market entry through foreign direct investment rather than exporting.
