Abstract
This study examines the research trends and intellectual structure of washing research by employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and Bibliometric Analysis of international washing-related publications published over the past decade. The findings indicate that washing research has grown steadily during the last ten years and has evolved from an initial focus on greenwashing to encompass social washing, governance washing, and ESG washing, thereby developing into an integrated research domain. Specifically, the overlay visualization analysis reveals an evolutionary shift in the research focus from greenwashing and social washing to ESG washing, and more recently to governance washing, disclosure, and regulatory issues. Furthermore, the keyword co-occurrence network analysis identifies four major research clusters: greenwashing, social washing, governance washing, and ESG washing. Rather than existing as independent domains, these clusters are interconnected through shared research themes, including sustainability reporting, ESG disclosure, corporate governance, and strategic communication, forming a cohesive intellectual structure. By integrating a systematic literature review with bibliometric analysis, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the core research streams and the structural relationships among research themes in washing research, thereby contributing to a more systematic understanding of the intellectual structure of this research field.
